Bidder Help

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about accounts, bidding, closing, winning, invoices, payment, condition, pickup, shipping, and taxes across Discount Depot Auctions. Auction-specific terms always control if they differ from a general answer here.

How do I start bidding?+

Create an account, sign in, complete any bidder information requested, review the auction terms, and accept the applicable terms when prompted. Once your account is eligible and the auction is open, you can place bids on published lots.

Do I have to register separately for every auction?+

Your Discount Depot Auctions account carries across the site, but an auction may require you to accept updated or auction-specific terms before bidding. If an auction has an additional eligibility requirement, it will be shown before you bid.

How old do I have to be to bid?+

Bidders must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding purchase agreement.

Do I need a credit card to bid?+

It depends on the auction. Pay-at-Pickup auctions do not require a saved card solely for bidding. Other auctions may be clearly marked as card-required or may use another disclosed payment method. Review the auction terms before bidding.

Does saving a card charge me?+

No. Saving a card does not itself create a purchase charge. If an auction uses automatic card payment, that policy will be disclosed in the auction terms before bidding. Card information is handled through our payment provider; Discount Depot Auctions does not store full card numbers or CVV codes on its own servers.

What is a lot?+

A lot is one item or a group of items sold together under one lot number. Review the title, quantity, description, condition, and photos so you understand exactly what the bid covers.

What is the current bid?+

The current bid is the amount presently required to be in the lead. It may be lower than the leading bidder's private maximum bid because the proxy system advances only as much as necessary.

What is a maximum or proxy bid?+

Your maximum bid is the highest amount you are willing to pay. The system keeps that maximum confidential and automatically bids only as much as necessary, using the applicable bid increments, until your maximum is reached.

Will the system immediately bid my full maximum?+

Usually no. If the current bid is below your maximum, the proxy system normally advances only to the amount needed to keep you in the lead. Your full maximum is used only if competing bids require it.

What happens if two bidders enter the same maximum?+

The equal maximum that was recorded first has priority. Entering your true maximum earlier can therefore matter when another bidder later chooses the exact same amount.

What are bid increments?+

Bid increments determine the minimum amount by which the price can advance. The required next bid is shown on the lot page and may change as the price increases.

Can I delete or retract a bid?+

Accepted bids are binding and should be treated as final. Do not bid as a placeholder or assume a bid can be removed later. Contact us immediately if you believe there is a genuine account or technical issue, but removal is not guaranteed.

Can I lower my maximum bid?+

Do not assume that a submitted maximum can be lowered. The safest practice is to review your amount carefully before submitting and only enter a maximum you are prepared to honor if you win.

How can I keep track of items I care about?+

Use your Wishlist to save lots and My Bids to follow items you have bid on. Lot pages also show the latest bidding status and closing information.

Will I be notified if I am outbid?+

The site may provide account or email notifications where available, but bidders remain responsible for monitoring their own bids and closing times. Do not rely solely on a notification to protect a bid.

What is staggered closing?+

Lots close in sequence rather than all at exactly the same moment. Unless an auction states otherwise, Discount Depot Auctions normally schedules lots approximately 30 seconds apart, subject to any extension on an individual lot.

What is soft close or extended bidding?+

Unless an auction states otherwise, an accepted bid during the final two minutes extends that individual lot by approximately two minutes. Additional qualifying bids during the extension period can extend the lot again. Other lots continue on their own closing schedules.

Why did a lot stay open after its original closing time?+

A qualifying late bid may have triggered the soft-close extension. The lot closes only after the extension window expires without another qualifying bid.

When is a winning bid final?+

A lot must finish closing and be finalized by the auction system. Until that process is complete, a displayed leading position should not be treated as a final invoice or completed sale.

How do I know if I won?+

After a lot is finalized, your winning lots appear in My Wins and are included on your invoice. You can also review invoices from your account.

Where can I find my invoice?+

Invoices are available from your account after the relevant lots and auction have been finalized. The invoice summarizes your wins, buyer's premium, applicable tax, and total due.

What fees are added to a winning bid?+

A 12% buyer's premium is standard unless an auction specifically states otherwise. Applicable sales tax and any other disclosed auction-specific charges are then added according to the auction terms and tax rules.

How is sales tax calculated?+

Sales tax is based on the applicable tax rules for the transaction and may depend on the pickup location, taxable amount, and approved exemption status. Your invoice shows the tax charged for that purchase.

How do tax exemptions work?+

If you qualify for a sales-tax exemption, valid documentation must be reviewed and approved before tax is removed where permitted by law. Contact us before the invoice is settled if you need an exemption applied.

How do I pay for my wins?+

Payment depends on the auction. Some auctions may be Pay at Pickup; others may require a saved card, automatic payment, or another disclosed method. The auction terms and your invoice control the payment process.

Where and when do I pick up my items?+

Our primary pickup location is 529 North Adams Street, Dixon, CA 95620. Standard auction pickup hours are Tuesday & Wednesday: 11 AM–5 PM and Friday & Saturday: 11 AM–5 PM. If we ever post a special pickup arrangement for a specific auction or lot, that notice will control.

Do I need an appointment for pickup?+

No appointment is normally required during our standard pickup hours: Tuesday & Wednesday: 11 AM–5 PM and Friday & Saturday: 11 AM–5 PM. If a special appointment or alternate pickup arrangement is ever required, we will clearly state it for the affected auction or lot.

What should I bring to pickup?+

Bring your invoice or bidder information, a valid government-issued photo ID if requested, an appropriate vehicle, tie-downs or blankets as needed, and enough capable help or equipment for large or heavy items.

Will staff load my items?+

Buyers should plan to load their own purchases. Loading assistance may be limited and is not guaranteed. Large or heavy items may require additional people, a dolly, tools, a truck, or a trailer.

Can someone else pick up for me?+

Third-party pickup is not automatically guaranteed. Contact us before pickup if someone other than the registered bidder needs to collect an order so we can tell you what authorization or identification may be required.

What if I cannot pick up during the available pickup days?+

Contact us as soon as possible. Alternate arrangements are not guaranteed. Unclaimed items may be treated as abandoned, forfeited, resold, or otherwise handled under the applicable auction terms.

Do you offer shipping?+

Shipping is not currently a standard service. Unless the auction or lot specifically says Shipping Available, assume the item requires local pickup. Visit the Shipping Information page for more details.

What do the condition grades mean?+

We use New, Appears New, Open Box, Pre-Owned, and Damaged. Grades are based on the information and limited inspection available at cataloging. Unless a lot specifically says it was tested, functionality is not guaranteed. Review the Condition Guide, photos, and lot notes before bidding.

Are stock photos ever used?+

Yes, some listings may use stock or reference images to help identify a product. When used, they may not show the exact physical condition, packaging, color, revision, accessories, or included contents. Give actual-item photos and written lot notes greater weight.

Are retail values guaranteed?+

No. Retail, MSRP, or reference values are provided for convenience and may come from third-party sources. They are not guarantees of current market value, resale value, or another retailer's current selling price.

Are returns or exchanges allowed?+

Auction merchandise is generally sold as-is and all sales are final except where required by law or where Discount Depot Auctions determines that a material listing error warrants a remedy. Contact us promptly if you believe the physical item materially differs from the listing and, when possible, raise the issue before leaving pickup.

What if an item cannot be located at pickup?+

Tell staff immediately. We will verify the lot and inventory records and determine the appropriate next step under the applicable auction terms. Do not substitute another item without staff authorization.
